Identical twin altpop duo LÖNA return with their most emotionally charged release yet: “I Never Wanna Be In Love”, a melancholic banger built for crying in the club. Combining gut-punch lyrics with bold synths and a four-on-the-floor beat, the track delivers heartbreak wrapped in neon.
‘I Never Wanna Be In Love’ showcases LÖNA’s ability to expertly blend rough electronic production with hauntingly honest songwriting, resulting in a single that’s emotionally raw, sonically powerful, and impossible not to move to.
“‘I Never Wanna Be In Love’ is about the heartbreak of almost-love,” the duo shares. “It’s about caring for someone who won’t meet you halfway, and holding on to something undefined because letting go feels like losing everything.”
The track began with Danielle crafting the core production, later completed with co-producer Mischa Dirksen. Inspired by emotionally driven dance tracks like Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own”, the song balances vulnerability with force. Rough synths, especially in the aggressive, tension-building bridge, underscore the push-pull of intimacy and distance.
With its standout lyric “I bit my tongue till I tasted blood, I don’t want to be loved,” LÖNA captures the pain of emotional limbo, longing, and unspoken limits. The duo continues to mine personal experience for universal impact, much like their previous songs about grief, identity, and connection.
The Dutch-born twin sisters behind LÖNA create “dark music for happy people”, a contradiction that defines their appeal. Their band name, which means “valuable” in Swedish, reflects the emotional weight they carry into every song, blending melancholic pop with electronic grit and poetic honesty.
