Leading the compilation comes a collaborative effort from Mantra and Jake Neumar. “Remember” is a captivating future pop ballad that is charged with emotion. Upbeat percussion saunters over gripping chords that paint the sonic tapestry. Jake Neumar’s vocals take center stage, moving between reflective, wistful, and uncertain. It’s a reflection on the immense power of love, chartering the highs and lows through the lyrics and moving production.
“What If You Never” is a testament to the immense talents of California’s Monika Santucci. The singer-songwriter and producer has been making tidal waves in electronic music with her melodic bass and pop-leaning output. Her latest effort sees her at her finest, delivering a vocal-driven melodic bass number that will leave listeners aching for more. The lyrics explore the hypothetical of turning back time to avoid the heartache that comes with lost love. It’s an anthem for those overcoming a break-up that explores a myriad of what-ifs around stunning dance-friendly sonics. Monika Santucci’s lush yet melancholic vocals are juxtaposed by ethereal synths and a stuttering house groove, working in concert to create the perfect trifecta of sounds. It’s an addictive exploration of the age-old question, “is it better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all?”
Monika Santucci shares her excitement around the song’s release saying, “‘What If You Never’ has been over a year in the making and I am so excited to finally have it out!”
Transporting listeners to the shores of Newcastle, Australia, comes Solomon France’s “Good Grief.” The summer-friendly cut blends indie rock sensibilities with an energetic electronic edge. It’s a ballad built for summer love, soundtracking stolen looks, lingering smiles, and the rush of a new crush. The guitar-led backdrop swells to match the rising tides of infatuation before exploding into an upbeat onslaught of chunky drums, bouncy leads, and an inspiring sense of getting after it. Smooth vocals tie the track together telling the story of what could be if only willing to take the chance.
Fusing the talents of Cloudy Parallels, Complexive, and Zhou is “Better Of This Way.” The track is a modern-day power ballad about moving on. The rocktronic backing is built around cutting guitar riffs that empower the building drums and emotive vocals. The track’s namesake rings out through the drops, as an off-kilter future bass palette drifts between sadness and cloud-like beauty. Moving between poppy and experimental, “Better Of This Way” is a fresh take on the classic break-up story.
Providing a short but sweet introduction to the release, Cloudy Parallels describes it as “An entrance to an emotional Gateway…”
“Sierra” unites Leondis, Butler, and Z3LLA for a gripping auditory journey. Captivating pads and whimsical flourishes set the stage before Z3LLA’s vocals steal the show. The impassioned vocal delivery pulls at the heartstrings with a seductive yet impactful allure. Enriched bass and inventive sound design score the drops for a Flume-like sense of epicness that is inescapable. From uplifting chords to the snappy drums and mind-bending melodies, “Sierra” is a spellbinding offering that hits all the right notes.
Howlan takes listeners on a ride with “Take Me High.” Blurring the boundaries between future bass and melodic drum & Bass, the track fuses frenetic drum breaks, colorful synths, and pulsing bass for a head-spinning concoction. Pitched-up vocals glue everything together, adding to the playful appeal while giving the track a commanding hook that’s chopped and bent at Howlan’s will. Mixing nostalgic dance feels and futuristic sounds results in a fittingly uplifting sound.
Drawing the project to a triumphant close comes “Nightfall.” Arriving at the hands of Chicago-based trio Galena Crew (previous winners of the Discovery Project DJ/producer competition hosted at Beyond Wonderland Chicago, and handpicked by guest judge NGHTMRE), the track is an ode to the golden age of future bass with a fresh twist. The vocals and melody offer a euphoric texture that is contrasted against gritty basslines and hard-hitting drums, resulting in a darker edge. The synths are roaring and anthemic, moving from massive walls to rolling waves, keeping listeners entranced with every step. The sonic elements paint the vivid scene of a dark sky still illuminated by the whispers of the day. “Nightfall” is adventurous, addictive, and ever-evolving.
Breaking down the track Galena Crew says, “Every artist has a track they know is special, but needs the perfect moment to release. For us, that track is ‘Nightfall’. It’s easily one of our most requested and played out IDs. We’re excited to give ‘Nightfall’ a perfect home on Lost in Dream’s ‘Gateway’ compilation!”
