Manual Smiles drops debut Techno EP by Command Control

Command Control’s debut EP, ‘Essence’, kicks off with ‘Snappd’. First heard on Freddy K’s Krzrzrz radio show in 2022, its peak-time rhythms and tumbling chords finally see a release via the upstart Brussels-via-London Manual Smiles label spearheaded by n_o. It’s followed by the classic-in-the-making title track, ‘Essence’, featuring an old-school ‘90s vocal, stripped-back techno drums, and dubbed-out synth work, making for an earworm hit that will find a home in a wide range of DJ sets.

The London-based Command Control now makes his production debut with ‘Essence’ following formative years in the local queer scene and a long-running radio show on Komrad. ‘Nazar’ picks up the pace next; steady bells keep the tempo as its hammering drums punch through, leaving ‘Essence’s dub elements behind for a high-energy, tear-out techno workout. Closing out this versatile offering from the promising artist, ‘Saklikent’ then takes us on a real trip through deep sonics complete with sizzling high hats and mind-warping melodies – rounding off yet another quality release on the Manual Smiles label, which has seen music from the likes of KitstaThe Groove RoomAzo and REES.
