Marcos Baiano is a long-time stalwart of the underground who previously ran the Berlin-based label B.SOUL Limited, releasing music from the likes of Jovonn, Terence Terry and Ivan Iacobucci aka Retro Activity, while Baiano also released on Nervous, Lapsus and La Vie En Rose. His new label, 2HOT2HANDLE, grows out of that and is built on a simple yet powerful concept: timeless, club-ready music centred on attitude, groove, and identity across different shades of underground electronic music, with some records going deeper, others more electro-driven or techno-influenced. That is how Baiano has operated over the last 20+ years with a personal musical language he describes as electro-black-soul.
The first EP is rich in analogue hardware, primarily the Moog Sub Phatty for its sharp, gritty texture and the Subsequent 37 for warmer, rounder tones, creating a hybrid modern sound with a strong old-school foundation. First up is ‘Intruders’ , a chunky and dark house sound with twitchy acid lines and a prying bassline that never sits still. Vocal fragments, subtle scratches, and funky drum programming make it a full-bodied sound with trippy energy and late-night allure.
Terence :Terry: has worked alongside Baiano for years and will take a mentor role and handle mastering for this new label. He is a French-born DJ and producer who came up in Paris and has since shaped the scene as a key resident, label head, and agency owner who now plays worldwide. His rework rides on snappy tech drums, with balmy chords adding a cosmic feel alongside freaky FX that dial up the heat.
The fantastic ‘Back To The Future’ features vocal samples that hint at OG Chicago house, with a jacked groove and heavy bass that will cut through the dance floor while the eerie synths keep things fresh. Last of all is ‘Body Heat’ with Baiano’s own vocals tracked in the studio, and they will play a key role in shaping the label’s sonic identity across future releases. It’s a bubbly, driving house sound with a sense of mischief and hiccuping synth motifs that will spin bodies and minds.
