As the pride and joy of the Australian dance circuit, MaRLo has remained at the pinnacle of trance music throughout its shifting tides and ever-evolving phases. The Dutch-born, Aussie-based phenom has been a mainstay across numerous iterations of Dreamstate gatherings around the globe, and he’s now making his long-anticipated debut on their dedicated label.
Channeling the breathtaking power and awe-inspiring beauty of the open waters, MaRLo’s latest creation delivers equal parts mind-bending psychedelic energy, heart-warming melodies, and timeless trance emotions.
Captivating from each sweeping current, “Oceans” covers the spectrum of what signifies modern trance. Launching straight into exhilarating drum rolls and a pulsing psytrance bassline, MaRLo slowly unveils his composition’s melodic, emotional side. Cascading arps drift through a fast-flowing riptide powered by hypnotic vocalizations, sharp rave stabs, twinkling piano keys, and a spectacular rolling melodic lead as big as the deep blue sea.
MaRLo confirms that the majesty of the ocean inspired his latest creation.
“I’ve always loved the ocean,” says MaRLo. “The raw, overwhelming power and vastness that exists in perfect harmony with its gentle beauty and flowing nature; it’s always brought me plenty of inner peace and inspired admiration. I tried to incorporate just a little bit of that incredible power into this song.”
When addressing his enduring presence in the trance scene, MaRLo says, “it takes 15 years to become an overnight success.” However, worldwide reverence for Australia’s beloved artist—real name Marlo Hoogstraten—has been snowballing from a stockpile of trance classics dating back even further, more than 20 years, when he helped launch the Liquid M project. Striking out solo in 2008, it wasn’t long until he’d earned favor with scene leaders like Armin van Buuren, who snapped him up to release on A State of Trance, Armind and more.
For more than a quarter of a century, MaRLo has electrified the masses with his unique style of melodic and tech-driven music. He cracked the DJ Mag Top 100 on four separate occasions and has played everywhere from EDC Las Vegas to Creamfields to Transmission and, of course, Dreamstate in all its incarnations.
MaRLo’s most recent achievement includes launching his own ‘Altitude’ concert series, which drew more than 50,000 attendees last year with nine
sold-out shows in key markets around the world. This series also prompted the impetus for his own Reaching Altitude sub-label within the Armada family.
Reaching another high-water mark in his extensive career, MaRLo ushers in another spectacular crowd-pleaser via the genre-fluid single “Oceans.”
