“Martha Hill is incredible”- BBC Introducing
“Unmissable”- Tom Robinson
Rising alt-pop singer-songwriter Martha Hill is poised to announce her debut EP with the arrival of ‘Be Still’ this September and will pre-empt its release with a brand new track ‘Pick Me Up’, once again portraying Hill’s charm and elegant fragility.

About the EP, she says: “I wanted my debut EP to be a self-portrait; something to introduce me and my music, and I feel like “Be Still” does just that. It’s all about navigating who I am as an individual and also in relation to the world around me- all the different people, relationships, situations, mental states. It’s all about being in your early 20s and just trying to suss it all out. It’s also an exploration musically- I like to touch on lots of different genres, the only common thread really being my voice and my story. In-keeping with the theme of exploration, each track more or less was written and recorded at completely different times with different people, giving it a laid back and journey like quality.”
An evocative journey hand-in-hand with faithful instrumentation, accompanied by a seductive and seemingly effortless delivery, ‘Be Still’ draws on a myriad of influences from pop, indie, folk and soul, marking a new chapter and makes for an impressive introduction to a wonderful new artist.

About Martha Hill :
Northern musician Martha Hill left her rural Scottish home aged 17 to busk her way around Europe before settling down in Newcastle and throwing herself into the UK music scene. Newcastle based musician Martha Hill writes observational alt-pop that is both hard-hitting and catchy as hell. An energy of husky vocals and melodic hooks, her introspective storytelling delivers socially conscious themes over a backdrop of guitars, cellos and synths, thriving in reinvention and fusion.
2018 saw Hill win the coveted PRS Women Make Music award, as well as being as being chosen for Festival Republic’s Rebalance programme. Hill has supported acts such as Maximo Park, Mahalia and Let’s Eat Grandma and has also played multiple DIY tours to a growing fan-base across the UK and Europe. Hill has worked with producers such as Joe Rubel (Ed Sheeran/Rag N Bone Man), Matt Terry (Enemy) and Lauren Deakin-Davies (Laura Marling). This year, her live show at 2019’s Latitude Festival, was broadcast by BBC 1, BBC NE as well as BBC 6 Music. With her debut EP ‘Be Still’ just round the corner and a headline tour of the UK booked for the end of this year, Martha Hill’s journey is nowhere near complete.
