Electronic music heavyweight Martin Roth announces his second full-length, piano-led album ‘Mono No Aware’, due for release on Reflections September 12. Today Martin shares this exciting news alongside the release of the first album single, a beautiful piano composition, ‘Alicia’s Noir’.
“Years before many of you would have been here to listen to it, I started making music. It began with the piano but became electronic based very quickly when the world’s dancefloors and I got infected heavily by synthesizer and sample based music. As a teenager I was lucky enough to experience techno and house unfolding and blooming first hand… I didn’t miss a club night those days. Wanting to dive deeper, I took part in this whole movement adding my sounds and records to it.
Over the years I swam through many styles and directions. It seemed like I couldn’t rest anywhere for long, always restless and on the hunt for the perfect island I felt comfortable with to reside – and sometimes my followers were not able to keep track anymore… I kept swimming through sunny bays and heavy storms, and found my missing puzzle piece in between teaching myself how to turn the right knobs of life. I was given beautiful kids who made me finally grow up, and I found peace in simplicity and became ‘An Analog Guy in a Digital World’.
‘Mono No Aware’ is about the sad beauty of seeing time pass – the aching awareness of impermanence – but also the appreciation for being blessed with beautiful moments.
These are the days that we will return to one day in only future memories.”

Pre-order the new album ‘Mono No Aware’.
Due September 12 on Reflections.
Joining the Anjuna label family back in 2008 with a remix of Above & Beyond’s trance anthem ‘Miracle’ on Anjunabeats, Martin Roth has since provided numerous standout moments within the Anjunadeep back catalogue including ‘Have You Ever’, ‘Organic Brewed Hipster Funk’ and 2012 label classic ‘Beautiful Life’. During lockdown, while Anjunadeep launched their series of ambient various artists compilations, Roth moved from club to piano-led music and the release of his first full-length downtempo album, ‘An Analog Guy In A Digital World’.
Martin says it’s no coincidence his two full-length albums are classical-leaning. His emotions pour out his hands and into the piano, and ‘Mono No Aware’ is an amalgamation of these stories and experiences.
Pre-order the album, available digitally and on a limited run of signed 12” vinyl.
“’Alicia’s Noir’ is about drifting through life and finding peace in hope, melancholy and nostalgia. It’s two piano lines talking to each other. It’s a question and answer dialogue that represents this idea that everything will fade away.”
The first single from the album is ‘Alicia’s Noir’, a haunting piano piece, inspired by cinematic scores and epic soundscapes.
He began the writing process in mid-2021 while the world was still under COVID’s thumb, and says lockdown in Germany was the perfect backdrop to write an album steeped in melancholia. The nostalgia and impermanence even extends to the name – ‘Mono No Aware’ is a Japanese phrase which means awareness that everything fades away.
