2021 saw Australia’s modern-day Queen of Disco truly arrive on the scene and made her an apropos choice to lend her talents to a mix series that aims to support and highlight some of the most flourishing local dance talents.
The ‘Sweat Selects’ mix series kicked off in December with the bass-infused sonic journey of SLUMBERJACK, a mix dedicated to tracks that rejected the status quo and built something unique, an ode to their upcoming debut album ‘DICHOTOMY’ set for release on Friday 28th January 2022.
Mell Hall now steps onto the mix plate to present ‘Voices Of Disco’, a sixty-minute education to the wonderful world of disco. The mix showcases some of the most iconic vocals in the funk-filled history of disco while also spotlighting the new generation of producers who endeavour to provide the sonic palette for groove on the dancefloor.
On the premise behind her mix, Mell Hall shared, “What makes a Disco/House record a classic? The Vocal. This mix showcases and samples the traditional and modern voices that are synonymous with elevating hit after hit – guaranteed to make you break into song!”
With a tracklist that opens with French producer Dimitri from Paris’ remix of iconic Sister Sledge track ‘He’s The Greatest Dancer’, spans selection such as Funky Brother’s rendition of ‘We Are Family’, and sprinkles in remixes from disco-edit legend Dr Packer, Mell Hall has ensured that the energy is kept to a maximum throughout.
Mell Hall and her signature disco edits have long been admired and recognised by punters and some of the world’s best touring DJs – Disclosure, Basement Jaxx, Crazy P, Norman Jay, Todd Terry, Late Nite Tuff Guy and Weiss – just to name a few. In 2021 she announced her signing with Club Sweat and went on to make her debut release ‘Knock Knock (feat. Thandi Phoenix)’. The release saw Mell Hall go on to set the record for the longest-reigning female artist at #1 in ARIA Club Chart history, sitting atop the chart for nine consecutive weeks.
