Following the success of his gospel-tinged collaboration with Dames Brown, ‘Sweat’, Melvo Baptiste is back to develop his joyful sound, this time spotlighting the vocal talents of Annette Bowen.
The two previously collaborated on the label in 2022, releasing ‘Gonna Be Alright’ alongside Chicago legend Jamie 3:26 to critical and commercial acclaim. ‘Did You Pray Today?’ is a take on the Lisa Taylor original from 1992, a unique, upbeat addition to the London tastemaker’s diverse catalogue of records. As the track builds in ecstasy, Annette’s powerful yet crystal clear voice is supported by choral ad libs and Melvo’s cool, underground production touches.
