Leo Guardo has a global house sound that draws on Afro, tribal and ethnic influences. It has appeared on numerous leading labels, including MoBlack and Connected, and has made him a regular on Spotify playlists, BBC Radio 1, as well as in the world’s top clubs and festivals. Here, he collaborates with Foozak, who is renowned for his musicianship, organic style, and utilisation of local vocalists to bring his authentic Afro sounds to life. He heads up the Ewaso Records label and is a powerhouse of the Kenyan scene, whose music often gets played by the influential likes of Black Coffee.
The majestic ‘Spirit Rise’ has soft and deep drums with feathery snares dancing over the top and synth sequences that are full of promise. They build to a subtle peak when smoky and soulful vocals join the mix next to brighter stabs. It’s a quietly epic track that casts a transcendental spell, perfect for getting lost in the moment under the strobes or stars.
