Mortician and entrepreneur are not the words you would expect to be associated with an artist, but Nathan Morris is breaking the mold, both metaphorically and within his music. In fact, the Kentucky native’s closeness to death is something that challenges him to face what we all ultimately fear. In doing so, he turns to songwriting and manages to produce really authentic sounding tracks like that in ‘Dangerous’, out on the 21st of April.

The softly driven piano ballad is clear cut in its point. Sharp lyrics on a bed of beautifully arranged keys and a sonically satisfying chordal arrangement allows Morris to pull on our heartstrings for the duration of the song. Clearly in touch with his emotions, Nathan faces himself in the mirror and asks why he feels the way he does “night after night”. At the end, the song climaxes with big sounding drums, emphasizing the power of the song’s message.

On the track, Morris says:

Surrounded by death during Covid, as the leader and owner of a funeral home company, I was constantly bearing witness to loss; of will, of life, of self. I was merely a version of myself, and got tired of being jealous of the show version of me. The many masks I wore to keep things on track cost me my mental health. Confession has this therapeutic way of starting the healing process. Dangerous is that confession.”

‘Dangerous’ will be released on the 20th of April and will be accompanied by a stunning music video, shot in black and white in his hometown of Kentucky. It gives us insight into the life and community of the musician and business owner.
