The London trio elevate the 2022 gem with a new mix and stylish music video ahead of their upcoming EP ‘Perfect Kindness’
DIY dream pop trio Night Tapes return with a new take on their hit 2022 single ‘Humans’, out today on Nettwerk Music Group.
‘Humans (Elevated Mix)’ is a fresh rework of Night Tapes’ 2022 release via a new mix from sought-after producer Nathan Boddy. A spacey, slow jam full of shimmering synths and infectious vocals, the Tame Impala-inspired ‘Humans (Elevated Mix)’ combines louche melodies with dreamy chord progressions to create a nostalgic yet timeless sonic feel.
The trio are also releasing a music video for the track directed by Taz Tron Delix, who has worked with everyone from Calvin Harris and Stormzy to fashion brands such as Adidas. Set in smokey nighttime urban settings filled with vivid colours and other-wordly costumes, the video is an endlessly inventive representation of Night Tapes’ aesthetic identity.
Speaking about the track, the band says: “‘Humans’ is about getting used to being a spectral being and learning lessons about one’s own shadow. For how are you going to tame a lion in the dark? This was the song that Max could use as an excuse to get himself some well-deserved congas. The congas are everywhere (on this EP)… one day there will be a gong.”
Complementing its lush production, ‘Humans’ is also expertly mixed by Nathan Boddy, who has worked with the likes of PinkPantheress, James Blake, Mura Masa and London Grammar, and mastered by Matt Colton, who has worked with Flying Lotus, Flume and Brian Eno amongst others.
Night Tapes started out as evening jams between housemates Max Doohan, Sam Richards and Iiris Vesik in London. Night time London, genre-blending, multi-fidelity recordings and honest reflection contribute to their atmospheric soundscapes that ultimately make for fresh and envelope-pushing dream pop. Night Tapes take inspiration from both their lived experience in the world that they can see and touch, as well as the less tangible spiritual and metaphysical realm.
To date, the band have released two EPs: Dream Forever In Glorious Stereo and Download Spirit. Their debut single ‘Forever’ has reached over five million plays, and their music has been championed by Turtlenek, Paste Magazine, Pigeons & Planes, DUMMY Magazine, At The Barrier, David Dean Burkhart and Majestic Casualchannels. Having signed to Nettwerk Music Group in 2022, Night Tapes will release their third EP Perfect Kindness on 16th June.
‘Humans (Elevated Mix)’ takes listeners deep inside Night Tapes’ world of languid nighttime house beats and shimmering soundscapes. The buzz around the trio’s upcoming EP Perfect Kindness intensifies.
