“Intricately produced alt/electronica pop effort from Novaa that enthralls the senses and awakens the mind” – The Line of Best Fit
Berlin based experimental pop artist Novaa continues to enthral with new track ‘Elon’, an ethereal, introspective thought piece that floats seamlessly over atmospheric electronic beats. Taken from her brand new album ‘The Futurist’ due early next year, it follows on from her recent singles, ‘Drones’ and ‘AI Am In Love’.
She says: “Yes, I’m singing about Elon Musk in this song. But I have to disappoint you, I am not trying to hit on him. Sorry Elon. I wrote it about autonomously driving cars. As with all of these songs from my upcoming album ‘The Futurist’ I don’t want to share or force my opinion upon someone, I simply want to talk about it and make people talk about it. The future can be a cool thing, Elon already knows that. It will not be an apocalyptic sci-fi movie ending, it will be our everyday life. So let’s make sure we create it consciously. When I first wrote the chorus it sounded completely different and very plastic. Then I wrote the verse in the same style but ended up not being happy with it. So I dropped the verses and the production again and started off with only the chorus line again. After I had the beat and the main synths and baselines, I asked a friend of mine to play some guitar chords. They fitted the mood of the song perfectly. When we met up to record them, we came up with the idea to double the main vocals in the chorus. I loved the idea of doubling the main vocals so I also programmed the strings for the second verse guided by the main vocals.”
Following on from her acclaimed self-titled debut LP released earlier this year, Novaa explores the future on her forthcoming album The Futurist. Or rather: how we used to see the future, how we used to imagine the future. A future that actually might be our reality today:
“So many technologies influence us profoundly, but they are barely discussed in the public”, Novaa explains. She’s always been interested in futuristic topics, pestering her physicist brother to explain the world of technology, physical laws and inventions to her, devouring podcasts, documentaries, and books dealing with ideas of the future. “I wanted to break down really complicated matters into something more understandable and emotional”, she says. And this is how The Futurist was born. Its songs are more than just brilliant pop songs by a really great young writer, they’re intended as conversation starters. “I don’t want them to evaluate the ideas expressed in them”, Novaa clarifies, “they are neutral. Just a starting point.”
