Dallas, TX’s rising indie-punk group Overshare are back with their latest single, “Spaceships,” set for
release on August 19th. There is a familiar, fierce energy woven throughout the track, which originated from an infectiously groovy bassline. Eric Rosener perfects his rap-singing vocals, painting spaceships as a metaphor for sexual urges.
Rosener, who has used music to share his experiences with bipolar disorder, explains, “Lyrically, I had
been wanting to write a song about mania. I feel that there are many songs about depression but less about mania. So I wrote the lyrics about manic/ hyper sexual/ impulsive urges. They are symbolized by the ‘spaceships flying around my head.’”
Overshare was formed in 2019, combining the talents of Rosener (vocals), Connor Wayne (bass), Wil
Farrier (guitar), and Josh Reed (drums). Their delivery of classic garage rock comes with a sweet pop coating, a unique spin on the genre. The MF DOOM inspiration and hip-hop background of Rosener is not lost in their work, pairing it with influence from Parquet Courts and Cage The Elephant.
“Terrifying, I ain’t lying/ Looks like that might leave me dyin’,” Rosener sings. “Spaceships” is a
culmination of Overshare’s masterful balance between the topic of complicated relationships and the
enjoyment of bouncy melodies, poignantly playful takes on the realities that plague us all.
