Paul Kalkbrenner has shared new track, ‘Dreaming On’, fitted with a sample of Depeche Mode.‘Dreaming On’ lifts the central guitar lick from Depeche Mode’s 2001 single, ‘Dream On’, and repurposes it for a driving, hypnotising techno track.
Depeche Mode are renowned for their reluctance to clear samples beyond official remixes, but for the first time ever, they’ve made an exception for Kalkbrenner.
‘Dreaming On’ is due to appear on Kalkbrenner’s forthcoming album, ‘The Essence’ (due 10th October), his first LP in seven years. According to press materials, the album has been built from tracks recorded throughout those years, including some collaborative tracks, which is a first for a producer who usually works alone.
