Cape Town producer Polar Inc. will release his debut album ‘Tragicomedy’ on Colorize on Friday 6th November, bringing together ten tracks that explore the contrasts at the heart of his sound.

It’s been a long time coming for Polar Inc. With more than 120 million streams across DSPs and releases on the likes of Colorize, This Never Happened, Anjunadeep and Armada. Cape Town-based producer Adam Spence has built a catalogue around the meeting point of melody, rhythm and emotion. Now, for the first time, he brings that sound together across a full-length body of work with ‘Tragicomedy’.

The album takes its name from the opposing emotions and musical ideas that have shaped the Polar Inc. project from the beginning. Across ten tracks ‘Tragicomedy’ moves between happiness and melancholy, cinematic textures and club-focused rhythms, organic warmth and detailed electronic production. Rather than settling into one particular mood, the album embraces the contrast between them, creating a collection that reflects the different sides of Polar Inc.’s sound.

“I think ‘Tragicomedy’ is the result of all these various dichotomies I saw when I first had the vision of making the Polar Inc. brand come alive,” explains Polar Inc. “When Colorize and I decided it was time to work on an album, I was so excited to get a full body of work that encompassed all the different elements of contrast within the Polar Inc. sound: happiness and melancholy, cinematic and clubby, emotion and rhythm.”

The album has already begun to take shape through a run of singles that showcase its different dimensions. ‘Sympathy’ featuring Anna-Sophia Henry introduced the project with warm melodies and an expressive vocal performance, while ‘Cerulean’ leaned into Polar Inc.’s melodic production and detailed sound design. ‘For You’ featuring Nathan Ball brought a more song-driven approach, pairing Nathan’s intimate vocal with glowing synths and organic textures, while ‘Slopes’ with Hannah Ray added another vocal-led dimension to the record. The track was originally started during a tour stop in San Francisco, with its title inspired by the hills Polar Inc. had spent the day walking around before the idea was later developed in the studio.

Alongside the previously released material, ‘Tragicomedy’ introduces six further tracks, including ‘Prima’, ‘Le Concorde’, ‘Apricity’, ‘Holding Me Up’ with sadHAPPY, ‘Catching Fire’ featuring ALLKNIGHT and ‘Agulhas’.

The album’s production is informed by a broad range of influences, from the electronic worlds of deadmau5, Audien, ATTLAS and Lane 8 to the cinematic work of Hans Zimmer and Nicholas Britell. That combination is reflected throughout ‘Tragicomedy’, where melodic electronic production is given the scale, detail and emotional weight of a cinematic score, while rhythmic elements keep the album rooted in the dance music world.

For Polar Inc. the album represents a new chapter for a project that has continued to grow across more than a decade of releases.
