From a young age, Uppermost (Behdad Nejatbakhshe) has been guided by traditional Persian music with a French touch. Finding resonance in the Iranian freedom struggles against the fundamentalist regime, Uppermost focusses on respecting these influences while establishing positive emotion with his music. Label boss, DJ, and producer, all of his creative energy happens within his home town of Bordeaux, France. Recently expanding into the world of filmography, Uppermost’s track, ‘Love’ was featured in an uplifting project directed by Joseph Carlin from Transfixion.
Uppermost draws on a palette of reference points that include Bon Iver, Floating Points, Lane 8, and Crazy P, his own sound parallel to elements of Tycho, Petit Biscuit and Madeon.
‘Night Walk’ ambles through a mix of synths and ambient electronics, rendering a picture of crisp air and neon lights against a velvet blanket of sky. Meticulous, layered production meets distorted, hypnagogic vocal cuts, nursing introspective moments into brilliance.
Paying homage to the original track, OBu ups the ante with techno embellishments, enhanced through intricate layers, a driving beat and kinetic rhythm. Azaleh’s remix sees a deep, ambient wave sound fused with grainy backdrops, offering up a slew of rich aural textures, while garcialucass steps up with a deep bassy offering.
Speaking of his remix OBu notes: “I wanted to add elements from techno music on the original mix to make it deeper and transcendent. The leading bass line is like a highway that ends at some point with percussive samples, and ambient pads riding on it. “
Uppermost notes: “’Night Walk” is about the sounds I hear when wandering alone in the middle of the night. Streets are empty and cold, reflections of city lights on the cars contrast with the darkness that surrounds the sky. The echo of a mesmerizing, inspiring silence can be heard
