RemK surges back to Lost In Dreams Records with ‘Caught In The Current,’ a four-track EP that captures his most vulnerable and emotionally-charged work to date. Out April 11, the project represents a full-circle moment for the Long Beach native—reconnecting with the sounds that first lit his creative fire while honoring his evolution as a boundary-pushing force in electronic music.

Known for merging the sun-soaked ease of Southern California with the thunder of trap and melodic bass, RemK crafts a dynamic contrast across the EP. Drawing inspiration from golden-era EDM, indie rock, and his early days producing in GarageBand, ‘Caught In The Current’ fuses nostalgia with a cinematic clarity that feels both raw and refined.

The centerpiece, “Free Your Mind,” sees RemK teaming up with rising LA vocalist Kenzie Gross for a soaring love ballad wrapped in melodic trap textures. Gross’ falsetto floats effortlessly over sparkling piano phrases and crisp drum programming before lifting into a sweeping drop marked by warm bass plucks and bioluminescent synth layers. It’s a track about letting go, and the sound mirrors that release: swelling, shining, and soaring.

The journey begins with “Airplanes,” sketched mid-flight after RemK’s first major North American tour—a wistful opener that grounds the project in rediscovery. “Lost With You,” the dreamy lead single, invites listeners deeper into RemK’s signature sound, while closer “Searching For The Words” featuring RENNER lands with poignant emotional weight, tapping into themes of longing and self-reflection.

Summing up the significance behind his new EP, RemK describes the changing tides that led to the inspiration for his body of work, saying “Creating ‘Caught in the Current’ allowed me to reconnect with the sounds that first inspired me, drawing from the golden era of EDM and the artists who shaped my musical journey. This EP is a tribute to those influences and a celebration of the music that ignited my passion.

A self-taught producer with a foundation in live instrumentation and a background in surf and rock, RemK stands out as one of dance music’s most emotionally resonant voices. At just 24, he’s earned collaborations with Knock2 and Ekali, official remixes for Galantis and Gryffin, and co-signs from DJ Snake, Marshmello, and Diplo. His remix of Marshmello’s “wantsomemusic?” has pulled in over 874,000 streams. He’s also riding on the crest of a coveted support slot on Knock2’s nolimit tour—with stops at Terminal 5, Echostage, and beyond—marking a high point in what continues to be a banner breakout year.

With ‘Caught In The Current,’ RemK doesn’t just revisit his roots: he reclaims them. It’s a cathartic, melodic body of work that anchors his identity as an artist unafraid to feel deeply, evolve boldly, and create on his own terms.

More About RemK

A paradoxical confluence of coastal cool and trap’s raw, unrelenting intensity, RemK’s dynamic sound has carried him across the country. But for the 24-year-old tastemaker, born Alec Mendoza, every road leads back to Southern California. Listen closely, and you’ll catch the undercurrent of the region’s laidback culture in the Long Beach native’s distinctive take on trap and other strains of electronic music. From the tactile intimacy of acoustic elements — guitar, drum, and even bass — to the diverse blend of sounds that he uses — ranging from trap to melodic future bass to house, with breezy touches of indie and surf rock — the influence of RemK’s Southern California upbringing enriches and distinguishes his evolving sonic signature, creating a contrast that feels both fresh and personal. There’s a fine line between bright and dark, light and heavy, happy and melancholy. RemK dances on it, effecting the collision of opposing forces for a vibrant sound all his own. His music contains multitudes: Warm, melodic tones tangle with distorted basslines. The carefree, sun-soaked memories of his California childhood clash with life’s more introspective and emotional moments — muses that deepen his music’s authenticity. This duality doesn’t just add depth to his artistry; it pushes the boundaries of trap, imbuing the genre with greater nuance and complexity. With a unique vision and the versatility to not just sustain but rather continuously evolve within electronic music’s ever-changing landscape, it’s no wonder RemK is hailed as one of contemporary trap’s culture shifters. This recognition has turned aspirational billings at major North American festivals like EDC Las Vegas, Lollapalooza, HARD Summer, Beyond Wonderland, Nocturnal Wonderland, Escape SoCal, and Countdown into tangible milestones, and support from some of the dance scene’s most influential acts (DJ Snake, Marshmello, Diplo, DJ Diesel) into a recurrent phenomenon. Official remixes for Galantis (“Little Bit Yours”) and Gryffin (“Dreams”) and collaborations alongside Knock2 (“…lights down low”) and Ekali (“Remember Me”) have only added impact to RemK’s already compelling resume. Building on this momentum, RemK hit the road in 2023 for his debut headline tour, Surf City. A testament to his growing reach within the live circuit, Surf City wound through a series of major United States cities (Brooklyn, Las Vegas, Austin, and Denver, to name a few), and even stopped in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It’s equally unsurprising that a DJ/producer so adept at working within and across sounds and inspirations traces his passion for music back to his early childhood. While some might have dismissed RemK’s constant banging on his family’s kitchen table as a mere child’s whimsy, his parents indulged this early sign of his inherent rhythm with a drum kit. This gift of musical possibility empowered RemK to master the drums — a skill that later enabled him to play in rock bands during his youth, drawing influence from artists like Linkin Park and the Foo Fighters. Along the way, he honed his ear and further expanded his musical abilities as a member of his school’s jazz band. At 12, RemK made a discovery that would change his musical trajectory: GarageBand. He spent hours teaching himself how to produce music, experimenting with sounds, and crafting his first original productions, some of which he released on SoundCloud. Every day after school, he’d come home, open his parents’ laptop, and pick up where he left off the day prior. In time, he began dabbling in electronic music — a pivotal step that turned a once-distant dream of full-time musicianship into his current reality. RemK’s background in live music and instrumentation continues to shape his sound, conferring a musicality that sets RemK’s music apart from electronic music’s conventional formulas. This year, RemK is set to further elevate his profile with a slate of additional headline shows and exciting collaborations, including a tour alongside Knock2. As his presence grows across the U.S., he’ll continue to expand his sound, most notably through the release of his sophomore EP, which promises the most melodic, emotive, and ultimately personal glimpse into his artistry yet. This is RemK: A sonic architect pushing boundaries, bridging sonic worlds, and proving that trap’s next chapter starts right here.
