Founder by Massi Rocket, Motel Calypso Records is a potent cultural force in Milan with weekly events at Rocket Club and now a label arm that provides a platform for emerging artists to shine. RHOOWAX is one of those and has been making moves with his funk, jazz and disco-influenced sounds under various aliases. They have found their way into record bags owned by the likes of Marco Carola and Martinez Brothers and have taken him to events as diverse as elrow, Pacha and Toffler in Rotterdam.
Fantastic opener ‘All I Want’ brings a percussive, dancefloor-driven energy and was designed “to move the crowd and keep the rhythm alive. “It builds in layers with booming kicks and tumbling toms that all make for a bold and carnival-style energy. ‘Lost in Melody’ is about losing oneself in sound and drifting into another world. The lush keys shimmer like heat rays as hot and steamy drums move things onwards at pace beneath a heart-aching vocal and more tender, pensive synth work.
