High-flying UK DJ/producer Riordan arrives on Hot Creations at a point where momentum is no longer building in the background, it’s already fully in motion. A standout debut at Coachella, which saw him appear in the Yuma Tent across both weekends before stepping into a surprise b2b with Hamdi at the DoLab to close out Weekend 2, marked a clear step into a wider global spotlight, reflecting the pace at which his sound has been cutting through on an international level across the past 18 months. That same energy now carries into ‘The Funk’, a two-track label debut on Jamie Jones’ renowned imprint that captures his instinct for direct, club-focused production.
The title track locks into a slick groove built around silky M1 organs, skippy drums, and soulful vocals, as it twists through a series of cascading builds and drops. On the flip, ‘WGTF?’ leans into more restless territory, with swung percussion, sharp rhythmic shifts, and a UKG-fueled bassline that keeps the pressure simmering.
“From the start, it’s been a huge goal of mine to sign an EP to Hot Creations. Like many others, Jamie Jones inspired me massively and was one of the first DJs I got into when I started listening to house music. I made ‘Feel The Funk’ in January during my time off touring, and to be honest, I was just looking to make a club track that would boot off in my sets. I started with the big rave stabs because I wanted a track that would stand out in a set. Once I started playing it and saw the reactions it was getting, I knew I was onto something, and got my team to send it right over to Hot Creations. I’m stoked Jamie liked it and was feeling the B side ‘WGTF’, which I’ve been sitting on for a while. It feels great to finally release on the label, and there’s no place I’d rather release my debut EP.” – Riordan.
Riordan’s recent run has seen him move quickly through key touchpoints in the global scene, from Beatport #1’s, including ‘Needle On The Record’ and ‘Lifting’ with Silva Bumpa, through to releases on REALM, Black Book Records, TSZR, and Insomniac.
