Released on 22nd March, ‘‘This Is What I Do’ marks the debut release from Klaps, the first artist other than Gawlas to feature on the label.
Backing up releases on the likes of Filth On Acid, Kneaded Pains, Sonaxx and many more, Belgian hard techno stalwart Klaps prepares to make another emphatic label debut as he becomes the first artist to feature on Klaudia Gawlas’ Illusion Recordings imprint. Since launching in 2023, the label has quickly become an emerging platform for high-quality underground techno releases, with Gawlas as the talisman behind the first three releases. In 2024, Illusion breaks new ground by welcoming external artists to showcase their work on the label. Klaps provides the first taste of exoteric artistic input to surface on the imprint via ‘This Is What I Do.’
The title cut ‘This Is What I Do’ gets things furiously underway with an onslaught of high-tempo hard techno potency. Its pulsating drum grooves, hissing hat sequences and piercing rave-inspired synth shots build out most of the mix, which ebbs and flows along to a catchy vocal hook.
‘303303303’ comes next, delivering another pounding dancefloor stomper. Stripped-back industrial beats lead the way throughout the mix whilst an expanding acid bassline dives through different envelopes of modulation to control the ever-changing intensity of the track.
Lastly, ‘Ik Heb Een Pilletje’ sees Klaps seal the EP with another racy arrangement of thickened rhythmic elements and coarse musicality. Another acid-stained centrepiece synth lead pours rave-ready nuances throughout the heart of the mix, encapsulated by catchy vocal injections, rigid kicks and fizzing percussive drive that scales up and down through the track’s various peaks and troughs.
