Bakk Heia’s schuttle drops the ‘Noisome Pools’ EP on Will Hofbauer’s gloriously idiosyncratic Third Place Records this December. The release starts with title track ‘Noisome Pools’, in which mysterious creatures gather to the sound of low-slung, organic drums, their gated voices humming along acidic licks and wriggling synth hits while tropical sounds envelop the forest. ‘Dungeon Shakti’ is next, its tempo dialled up with rattling percussion and hard-hitting kickdrums, futuristic bleeps and zaps whirring above while a robotic vocal rears its head occasionally.
schuttle’s ‘Jejunum’ continues the ‘Noisome Pools’ EP with more magical concoctions, culminating in a soundscape marked by tripped-out sequences and dub-infused rhythms before ‘Goo Imprint’ closes out the release. Intricate grooves with a side of wonk drive the track forward, while lightweight melodies and electrifying hits get doused in acid slick.
Newcastle-via-Manchester artist schuttle co-founded Bakk Heia Records with Jorg Kuning, Bitzer Malo, and Samuel Tomsky, stemming from Bitzer’s now 8-year-running Bakk Heia party at Salford’s The White Hotel, where the four regularly deliver their signature mix of swampy euphoria. He now lands on Will Hofbauer’s Third Place imprint, joining an excellently curated roster of label artists like Stella Z, Yetsuby, Later Version, and Sangre Voss.
