In an age in which overstimulation and short attention spans keeps people caught in a perpetual state of distraction, the L.A-based showstopper known as Softest Hard has taken it upon herself to instill a sense of presence on her newest single. Enlisting the lovely vocal talents of Grammy-nominated sensation Stacy Barthe, “Do Over” soaks up the feeling of living life to the fullest. Barthe encapsulates the fleeting nature of our shared existence with her captivating delivery, as her effortless, airy tones entertain the idea of running back the clock to experience the joys of life twice. Softest Hard seizes the situation on her own terms through a delicately rambunctious trap-leaning beat that evolves seamlessly over time. The jubilant track flits between bubbly melodies, punchy drums, lofty flute fills, rumbling bottom-end, metallic synth progressions and an arrangement that, much like life itself, stays interesting at every single turn.

Sharing her own sentiments on the new track, Softest Hard says: “Whenever I listen to ‘Do Over,” it reminds me to appreciate life while giving me a fun and bouncy beat to dance to.”

Los Angeles transplant Softest Hard is a Vietnamese-American artist who has been pulling off an impressive tightrope act through her music. As her moniker suggests, she strikes the perfect balance between beauty and calamity, juxtaposing mellisonant lyrics and melodies with heavy-hitting production. Her introduction to the HARD came in 2019, during her debut performance at the Day of the Dead festival at LA Historic Park. A couple of years later, she followed up with an appearance on HARD Recs by way of a frenetic hard dance collab with Wuki on “Family,” as part of his debut album ‘WukiWorld.’

More About HARD Recs

Renowned for curating the most cutting-edge lineups, HARD has solidified itself as a cultural institution within the live events space by continuously staying at the forefront of the ever-evolving dance scene. In 2018, they extended this forward-thinking ethos into their first compilation album, ‘HARD Summer 2018,’ an 18-track package aimed at showcasing the most sought-after sounds in house, techno, bass, trap and hip-hop music. With the launch of their very own HARD Recs imprint, they are providing a platform for the artists sprawled across their many stages at HARD Summer, Holy Ship!, and Day of the Dead. As its first full-fledged artist signing, they recruited UK powerhouse JOYRYDE, who has since released a string of high-octane singles, which eventually led up to his massive debut studio album, ‘BRAVE.’ Good Times Ahead (fka GTA) has graced the catalog with 2019’s ‘Good Times Bad Times at Hard Summer’ mixtape, featuring a star-studded roster that brought together high-profile acts such as Flosstradamus, What So Not, and more. Grammy-nominated sensation Wuki has also been enlisted to the roster, with respective singles featuring Diplo, Snappy Jit, Stoppa, and Juvenile leading up to the forthcoming release of his debut studio album. The most recent artist invited to join the ranks is Portugese bass music maestro HOLLY. With many more new signings coming down the pipeline, HARD Recs will remain dedicated to its mission of shining a light on established legends and on-fire newcomers alike from all across the spectrum of contemporary music.
