SoundCloud adds Top 50 charts for over 30 genres
SoundCloud has been a vital tool for dance music music discovery over the past few years. Despite an initial long list of lawsuits, the German streaming platform has successfully struck licensing deals with labels and publishers to help keep the site afloat. To continue fostering discovery on the site, SoundCloud has unveiled brand new Top 50 charts for over 30 genres.
The platform previously hosted an ‘Explore’ section next to the listener’s personal music feed that listed the most viral tracks in each genre as well as a ‘Related’ section for each uploaded song, of which is still available. The new ‘Charts’ section mimics a similar format to that of services like iTunes, Spotify, and even Hype Machine displaying the track’s current position, weekly plays, and all-time plays. In addition to popular genres like Dance & EDM, Indie, House, Pop, and Techno, other audio types like Audiobooks, News & Politics, Technology, and Storytelling have their own charts.
