THE ‘BIGCITYBEATS SPACE CLUB KITCHEN’ WANTS TO GATHER EVERYONE AROUND A GLOBAL TABLE
IN ORBIT, AROUND THE GLOBE, FROM THE NORTH TO THE SOUTH POLE AND INTO THE DEEP BLUE SEA; ALL OF THESE PARTNERS ARE TAKING PART IN THE ‘BIGCITYBEATS SPACE CLUB KITCHEN’
ESA astronaut Matthias Maurer will launch the ‘BigCityBeats SPACE CLUB KITCHEN’, the “largest global table in the history of mankind” on 19th March 2022. The peace project conceived by Frankfurt event entrepreneur Bernd Breiter, CEO of BigCityBeats and creator of the WORLD CLUB DOME festival, is pleased to welcome more partners aboard the history making club music dinner event including the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research, a research partner of ESA, Deutsche Bahn, the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Michelin, Deutsche Vermögensberatung (DVAG) and Thorsten Schäfer-Gümbel, a member of the Executive Board of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
The SPACE CLUB KITCHEN is the “largest global table in the history of mankind” and will take place on 19th March 2022, aboard the International Space Station (ISS), as well as around the globe, from the North to the South Pole and even in the vast deep blue sea. The space-suitable Indonesian goulash (“Rendang”), developed for space by superstar TV celebrity chef Tim Mälzer, in collaboration with LSG Sky Chefs, will be prepared by ESA astronaut Matthias Maurer on the ISS, and simultaneously by millions of people participating around the world. The astronaut will be adding to the intergalactic dinner event by mixing a unique DJ set via iPad, and broadcasting it to 50 exclusive dinner events on Earth. Each dinner event will feature a celebrity chef and a headline DJ, spoiling the celebrity guests all in aid of a good cause.
Bernd Breiter, initiator of the event, has used his visionary concept in the hope of peacefully uniting people worldwide, through the true universal languages of music, culinary arts and the joy of discovery: “When entertainment combines with research, within people we can create a fascination for science. We want to use the attention-grabbing power of entertainment, to present to people the immense importance of science. We create experiential spaces and connections between different worlds, and use them to inspire in young people an excitement about science whilst also encouraging their participation.” At the same time, this event is also set to become the launchpad for Breiter’s ‘ONE BILLION MEALS From Outer Space’ initiative, whose goal is to raise one billion meal donations for charities around the world.
“The Earth’s most remote regions in the deep sea, Arctic and Antarctic are characterized by a unique diversity of life and beauty. And yet they are changing far too quickly due to climate change and pollution,” says Antje Boetius, Director of the Alfred Wegener Institute. “But it’s not too late yet. If people around the world decide to work together and turn the tide, we can still save a lot. That’s why, with the SPACE CLUB KITCHEN, we want to get people around the globe excited about research, from space to the poles and down into the deep sea.” Antje Boetius will take an offshoot of the ‘BigCityBeats – SPACE CLUB KITCHEN’ on a deep sea dive to symbolize the interconnection of humans with all forms of life on Earth.
“The International Space Station ISS has shown us that we, people of different cultures and world views, can work together peacefully – regardless of all earthly quarrels and conflicts. This is also what the ‘SPACE CLUB KITCHEN’ campaign will demonstrate when it brings people from around the world together at one table,” says Dr. Walther Pelzer, DLR Executive Board member and head of the German Space Agency at DLR.
“Eating together connects people, families and cultures. It promotes exchange and looking beyond one’s own nose. Especially in the current times, we need to move even closer together and create a global sense of belonging. That’s why Michelin supports the BigCityBeats – SPACE CLUB KITCHEN project,” explains Anish Taneja, President & CEO Europe North at Michelin.
More than 330,000 people with more than 100 different nationalities, across four generations work together successfully under the umbrella of the DB Group. This unique diversity makes Deutsche Bahn the perfect partner for the globe-spanning event, it’s for this reason the ‘ICE CLUB KITCHEN’ within the on-board restaurant of an ICE4, will be celebrating and cooking along with the rest of the global participants. “As a diverse and cosmopolitan company, we are thrilled to be able to accompany this global event with the “fastest club kitchen in Germany” in one of our ICE4s and thus make our on-board restaurant a special once in a life-time experience,” emphasizes Stefanie Berk, Board Member for Marketing DB Fernverkehr AG.
“Connect people! Bringing people together on a global scale has been a matter close to Bernd Breiter’s heart for a very long time. Every time he succeeds in doing something even cooler than before. I’m delighted to be a part of it, as BigCityBeats SPACE CLUB KITCHEN, in my own club kitchen,” says Thorsten Schäfer – Gümbel, Member of the Board of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
