The Southern returns to CLR with the bass-rattling part one of the ‘Particle’ EP

Up first on The Southern’s ‘Particle EP 1’ on CLR is title track ‘Particle’, a potent cut featuring layers upon layers of distortion, with its rusty drums hammering beneath a barrage of synths. The excellent ‘Consciousness’ is no less intense, following on by pairing pulsing sonics and brain-frying acid with rolling grooves. It’s an arresting and dystopian sound that brings unreal energy to the dancefloor.

It’s really one of the biggest tracks I have been playing for a while. It reminds me very much of Renato Cohen’s Pontape back in the day… same vibe… same energy…” – Chris Liebing

The Southern is no stranger to Chris Liebing’s CLR, returning for a second EP after 2023’s jackin’ ‘Crackin The Jack’ EP, alongside previous stints on the likes of TruncateOn Edge Society and Kneaded Pains. For ‘The Particle EP 1’, he goes down a more industrial techno route, dropping the first instalment of this two-part release in March, with the second part scheduled to drop late April.

The Southern ‘Particle EP 1’ releases via CLR 29th March 2024.
