Today, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs shares his new studio album When the Lights Go released via his new label Nice Age. Spanning 17-tracks, compiling the ups and downs of the last decade between both albums, his second LP finds Orlando Higginbottom in greater command of his elegant melodies, tensile voice and cementing his ability to bring indie-pop to the dancefloor and stereo.

Featuring highlights ‘Blood In Snow’, ‘The Sleeper’, ‘Crosswalk’, ‘Forever’, and most recent offering ‘Never Seen You Dance’ – which arrived alongside a joyous Pavel Brenner directed music video – Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs new catalog inhabits a push-pull of outwardly facing dance-floor fillers and introspective heartfelt storytelling. This very intimate offering is a statement of intent from Orlando and encompasses themes relating to past romantic relationships, as well as broader topics such as mental health, the patriarchal system and climate change.
Speaking about his new album, Orlando describes “I’m so thrilled to be putting these songs out. This music is about love and the end of the world. I wouldn’t recommend a ten year gap between albums to anyone, but somehow it’s still been worth it for me. I’m very grateful to the people who have nudged and encouraged me along the way, and to the listeners who have reminded me that they expected a second album!”
Just his second full-length overall, since the release of his debut album Trouble a decade ago Orlando has toured the globe, settled in LA for seven years, worked behind-the-scenes producing for a range of top-tier acts, and earned himself a Grammy nomination in 2022 for his collaboration with Bonobo – ‘Heartbreak’. His recent singles have seen him garner support from Rolling Stone, Billboard, The Fader, PAPER, Stereogum, Paste, and many more, and earlier this year, Orlando wrapped his ‘I Have A Dream’ Club Tour, delighting fans with his dynamic DJ Sets at venues and festivals such as the DoLab Stage at Coachella.
The album arrives ahead of Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs’ highly-anticipated new live show coming to stages across Europe and North America this Fall. After many years of touring around the world as a DJ, the tour marks Orlando’s first live shows since 2013.
Beyond the glowing synthlines and the rhythmic capriciousness that so strongly informed his debut, When the Lights Go is where the troubles of the past come to an end, for Orlando. Life has offered a myriad of twists and turns and his response to the pain is a shift into positive energy, with his 17-track new offering as a catalyst.
When the Lights Go will be available on limited edition double 12” gatefold blue vinyl with printed insert, details available here. Listen and purchase When the Lights Go here.
