TRACE shares “Anxiety”, her most revealing track to date. In it TRACE unravels the isolating feeling that having anxiety can impose. The alt-pop song opens with soft-strummed acoustic guitar before morphing into something more menacing. Like a tidal wave, “Anxiety” continues to swell over its three and a half minute duration; darkly-shaded synths and haunting looped vocal “ahhs” slowly build throughout before the song reaches a sonic and emotional peak in the chorus.
Along with the single TRACE shares the accompanying music video for “Anxiety.” Co-directed and produced by TRACE, the clip personifies anxiety in the form of the perpetual presence of a man and a woman following, watching, judging TRACE’s every move as a reminder that Anxiety can be a constant companion.
WATCH “ANXIETY” here:
“In the process of writing “Anxiety”, and preparing for its release, I had a number of candid conversations with friends about their own Anxiety in hopes to gain further insight about something so prevalent yet convoluted,” TRACE says. “Through these dialogues, I’ve felt less alone and a bit less hesitant in sharing this piece of myself. I have consequently gotten to know and better understand my own Anxiety and so I hope this song is maybe a way to invite a spark, a thought, a dialogue to anyone who feels the same. Or at least to make feelings valid, especially when they can seem impossible to grasp. “
As part of “Anxiety’s” release, TRACE has partnered with NAMI California to raise awareness around mental health and offer support to those in need. Visit NAMICA.org for more info and resources.
TRACE Bio:
Singer-songwriter TRACE weaves deeply personal stories in the form of moody, R&B inflected pop music. TRACE’s saccharine, breathy vocals are juxtaposed with pointed reflections on her experiences to create music that swells with emotional depth. With each new release, TRACE dives further in to reveal the most vulnerable parts of herself and create shared moments of introspection on life, love and loneliness.
The Los Angeles based TRACE grew up around music watching her famous mother, described as the “Tina Turner of Vietnam,” perform. In a way, becoming a musician felt like manifest destiny. However, TRACE was determined to make it on her own terms. “A lot of Vietnamese singers don’t write their own music and this genre of diary-writing songs – that’s the core of me.”
First penning songs in her bedroom with an acoustic guitar, TRACE brought her first EP “Low” to life through a Kickstarter campaign to fund production. The EP would go on to earn TRACE comparisons to the west-coast cool of Lana Del Rey and the R&B-kissed ruminations of James Blake, as well as over 45 million Spotify streams.
