Electronic duo strip back vocals and dial up the intensity on this Bulletdodge Records release
Tribu Oro unveil their new EP Roots out now via Bulletdodge Records. This digital-only release marks a deliberate shift for the long-running Malaga-based project, presenting a more direct, uptempo body of work that pares back the duo’s usual sonic ornamentation to focus on rhythm and intensity.
For the first time in several years, Tribu Oro’s material appears minus the vocals of longtime collaborator Sofia Lorena. In her absence, the focus turns fully to the engine room of the project, with the tracks driven by propulsive percussion, raw energy and immersive electronic textures.
From the austere pulse of Haro and the elegant, acid-flecked sparseness of I Saw The Light, to the dub techno slant of Move and the emphatic polyphony of Salty Kiss, Roots captures the duo reconnecting with the influences that first brought them together, while pushing their sound into more potent territory.
The EP reflects the distinct musical instincts of founding members Philippe Del Bosque and Michael Rittner (also known as Miklosh). Philippe draws on a background steeped in techno and drum ‘n’ bass, while Michael channels punk attitude and acid-leaning textures. The resulting tracks are lean, dark and dynamic, built for movement rather than atmosphere.
Roots also documents a new phase in the duo’s working relationship. Since Philippe’s move to the Netherlands and Belgium, Tribu Oro has evolved through long-distance collaboration, with ideas exchanged remotely and reshaped by shifting environments, scenes and influences. The process is intentionally direct, with tracks emerging from shared sketches, instinctive arrangements and whatever sonic impulses are present at the time.
Formed in Malaga in 2016, Tribu Oro began as a DJ partnership before developing into a production project intent on challenging the city’s then-dominant club sounds. Over the past decade, the duo have built a reputation for genre-blurring electronic music, releasing on labels including Sofa Beats, Shango Records, Aureon Records and Bulletdodge Records, and collaborating widely across scenes and styles.
