The title track from Kalani’s ‘Rush’ EP on Troubleshoot Recordings takes the listener on a cosmic ride with crisp breakbeats and unending layers of deep, bubbling squelch. ‘Goose’ then continues with psychedelic growls and spell-binding melodies before ‘Frontiers’ harkens back to ‘90s tech house with a crunched-out M1 organ bass, whimsical vocal synths, and intergalactic pads. Closing out the release, ‘Slipstream’ conveys a sense of mystical wonder, exploring enchanted forests and deep subterranean caverns with more subtle breaks and interstellar synth-work.
LIGHTSPEED collective co-founder Kalani is a Manchester-based producer and DJ with a taste for trippy soundscapes, breakbeats and euphoric melodies. He follows up releases by Scaefa, Nickon Faith and Troubleshoot Recordings label boss Jon Selbo with the ‘Rush’ EP, joining an imprint marked by futuristic club sound and quality blends of prog house, trance, electro, and techno.
