As Circulation, Paul Davis was last on this label back in February with the potent ‘Flight’ and ‘New Way.’ They were the latest missives from an accomplished producer who has been part of the underground for a quarter of a century. In the early days, he helped shape the early UK tech house scene in the 90s and 00s, but he also innovated with disco and funk samples and dropped plenty of vital techno. Last Night on Earth founder Sasha has always been a fan, which is why he taps up Davis for two more fantastic tracks here.
‘Bad Luck’ shows another side to the Circulation sound, one filled with melodic lushness and introverted emotions. The deft melodies and wispy pads all layer up over a sleek groove and fizzing static to make for a tender electronic trip with brilliant sound design and a journeying sense of narrative. ‘Flux’ is just as special, this time with nimble chords moving about the mix next to well-treated vocal fragments and angelic, wordless hooks that bring a heavenly feel. The drums are deep, and the synth craft is again standout to make for a rich and immersive track.
