UK UP-AND-COMER MATT GUY DEBUTS ON ARMADA MUSIC WITH HEAVILY SUPPORTED ‘SET MY MIND FREE’

September 9, 2022 – “Banger! Always goes off!” –“A hit!” – “Loved this record from the first listen!” – These are just a handful of comments from respectively Danny Howard, Solomun and Sarah Story, all pertaining to Matt Guy’s debut release on Armada Music. The English DJ and producer might be a relative newcomer to the music scene’s upper echelons, but his latest piece of studio output proves he knows how to impress the industry’s cream of the crop.

Listen to Matt Guy – Set My Mind Free

Premiered by Sarah Story on Radio 1’s Future Dance back in April this year, ‘Set My Mind Free’ leaves dance music’s most influential figures no choice but to give rave reviews. Coupling a sample from Tony Terry’s 1989 classic ‘Forget The Girl’ with an iconic, nostalgia-infused bassline and contagious melodies, the record has already supercharged dance floors across the globe, from Solomun Open Air in London to Elrow at Ibiza’s Ushuaïa.

“As clubs re-opened and festivals got back on the cards for the summer, I wanted to make a track with pure uplifting energy that would mirror the excitement for being able to dance again”, Matt Guy says. “Its sound nods to the ‘90s, and the ‘Set My Mind Free’ lyric aims to reflect the feeling of those who are back doing what they enjoy!”

After beginning his career with a residency for Cue in Chesterfield, Nottingham-born DJ and producer Matt Guy quickly built himself a reputation at Egg London, one of the UK’s best clubs (DJ Mag 2017). Renowned for the energy and drive that permeate his sets, he has played alongside artists such as Josh Butler, Prok & Fitch, OC & Verde, ANOTR, Michael Bibi, Riva Starr, Max Chapman, Mark Knight, Darius Syrossian, Steve Lawler, Richy Ahmed and more, and graced the line-ups of festivals such as BudaFest, Mint Festival, El-Dorado and Detonate. On the studio front, Matt Guy touched down on labels such as Arcane (Eli Brown), Vassnova (Viviana Casanova) and Total Records (Charlie Tee) with respectively ‘Party Starter’, ‘Booty Call’ and ‘Krupa’, and racked up support from top performers and radio DJs alike, from Solomun, Fatboy Slim, Camelphat, Solardo, Eli Brown and to Danny Howard, Pete Tong, Sarah Story, Ben Malone and Charlie Hedges.
