Los Angeles, CA – Friday, October 23 – Bass producer VARI comes back to NGHTMRE and SLANDER‘s Gud Vibrations label to issue his new 5-track ‘AUGUR’ EP, a futuristic augmentation of retro rave music all pointing to a bright future for modern bass.
Flourishing from Tulsa’s electronic music scene, VARI is an artist with a voracious appetite for experimental bass sounds of all varieties. His insane sound design virtually leaves no genre unturned, offering his own twist on dubstep, hardwave, trap, drum & bass, and more.
The EP opener “Atrium” establishes an atmospheric environment fueled by futuristic robotic synths and vocal chops, eventually culminating in a hard-hitting trap drop accompanied with crisp, rhythmic chimes.
“Displace” continues the EP with an electronic groove that opens with melodic progressions before building alongside frantic snare hits, ultimately bursting into aggressive bass drum work designed for maximum low-end impact.
Following up is “Impulse,” a cut driven by crisp, fast-paced hi-hat patterns, punchy dubstep bass, and a commanding synth melody, delivering a powerful, high-energy sound until the end.
“Vault” is the penultimate track, cracking open the safe to reveal a trap gem laced with acid breaks. Squelchy leads, crisp drum patterns, dark acid synths, and ominous stabs drive the track forward, while laser-like effects and crunchy sawtooth sequences capture the raw energy of ’90s warehouse techno.
Closing the project is “Underflow,” a futuristic offering that opens with mechanized atmospheres before building tension through intricate vocal chops and stuttering rhythms, driving the EP to its electrifying climax.
The EP includes lead singles “Displace,” “Impulse” and “Underflow,” chronologically, who have drawn radio plays from Alison Wonderland and Illenium. VARI has appeared on the label since the dawn of his project in 2020, with a string of singles with Lizdek, CORTR, Malixe, NVADRZ, Virus Mafia, with music signed by RL Grime, Hex Cougar, Mat Zo. He’s provided tour support for SLANDER’s ‘The Voyager’ at Echostage, SILO Dallas, and has an upcoming headline show in his hometown this fall.
