“Monster” opens with stark piano chords and sweeping orchestral layers, crafting a somber stage for Baby Blue’s aching topline. Their performances unfold as a call-and-response, capturing the unraveling of two perspectives bound by hurt. As the tension builds, the track erupts into a cathartic drop showered in shimmering synths and serrated bass, signaling the bitter realization that sometimes the real monster is looking back in the mirror.
Summing up the feelings captured by his new single, William Black says, “‘Monster’ is about the darkness we all carry inside. That voice in your head that can feel like your worst enemy. It’s a song about facing it, understanding it, and not letting it win.”
Diving deeper into the meaning and touching on the creative process, Baby Blue adds: “For us, ‘Monster’ is an exploration of what it’s like to face your own demons. At the end of the day, the ‘demons’ we all fight—whether that be our trauma or our vices or our flaws—are still just facets of ourselves. The fact we were able to split those two selves into two different voices and highlight that conversation by making it a duet was a really cool creative experience.”
The release follows three standout singles: “Save Me,” “Waiting On This Day Forever,” and the Fairlane and Amidy-assisted “Nightmare.” The latter earned early support from Illenium and Adventure Club, and landed coverage across tastemaker outlets like Airwave Music, Fresh Music Freaks, and Music on the Rox, further cementing William Black’s reputation as one of melodic bass’s most emotionally resonant voices.
While the name Baby Blue may not ring a bell yet, the brains behind the singer/songwriter and producer pair have a head-turning portfolio shared between them. Founded by Annika Wells and James Quick, the new project builds upon their solo working, which has seen them amass more than 2 billion collective streams across songs with A-list names such as BTS, Jonas Bros, Baynk, Tinashe, and Illenium.
With his fourth album taking shape, Black’s live schedule mirrors the momentum. He’s currently supporting SLANDER’s new audiovisual ‘Voyager’ tour across North America, with additional high-impact appearances including Illenium at Echostage, Gold Rush, Dooms Night, and headlining plays at Nova SD, The Republik, Boulder Theater, Aggie Theatre, and more.
“Monster” finds William Black continuing to evolve his sonic palette with cinematic depth and emotional precision, offering yet another glimpse into an album poised to be his most revealing work yet.
William Black and Baby Blue’s new single “Monster” is available on all platforms via Lost In Dreams.

More About Baby Blue
Who is baby blue, you ask? Why are they here? Who cares about the stupid little sounds coming out of their laptop? YOU DO (ok not yet but you will after reading this). “baby blue” is the brainchild of Annika Wells and James Quick, the writer/producer/singer duo who have amassed over 2 billion streams across all platforms. With credits on hand from artists like BTS, Jonas Bros, Baynk, Tinashe, and Illenium, Annika and James are now branching out from their own individual projects to form the alternative electronic duo that is baby blue. Their melodies are weird. Their lyrics are deep af. And their voices sound like the sonic equivalent of the first bite of a perfectly toasted piece of bread coated in butter and slathered with nutella. Think if Fred Again and Imogen Heap had met in college and decided to make a project together, but with Ryan Tedder occasionally popping in the door to contribute a line. We’re here, we’re independent, and we’re already grinding on tiktok so if you could playlist us a little that would be immensely helpful. We also have features already lined up with William Black and Said the Sky so that’s pretty cool. Thank you for reading, this message will now blow up.
