Yellowtael is making his debut via Insomniac’s Discovery Project label on February 28th with his new single, “CLOSE 2 U.”

“CLOSE 2 U” is a heartfelt melodic house single, which is driven by sweet vocal loops, stuttering vox, sweeping string builds, sparkling layers of chiming atmospherics, and cinematic pads. The track is the winning submission of the Discovery Project’s longstanding DJ / producer competition hosted at Escape Halloween, selected by guest judge Seven Lions. It earned him a performance slot at the festival, as well as the aforementioned song’s release on the label.
Reflecting on the milestone, Yellowtael says, “This track represents a new evolution of my music—I’ve been so focused on creating a sonic atmosphere that is both cathartic and club-like in its danceability.”
Based out of Seattle, Yellowtael is a house music producer on the rise, known for occasionally tapping into his own live guitar and vocal work alongside club sets that pull inspiration from rock, pop, and electronic music. His dynamic DJ sets have landed him notable live opportunities, including a recent supporting slot for KREAM on their ‘Winter’ Tour last year, where he previewed “CLOSE 2 U” to a packed crowd.
With “CLOSE 2 U,” Yellowtael brings his signature melodic touch to the Discovery Project imprint and sets the tone for what’s to come with his blossoming artist project.

Yellowtael is the recording alias of Ken Tewell, a Seattle-based producer creating tracks inspired by electronic dance, pop, rock, and other emotive, nostalgic sounds. Ken takes a versatile approach to his performances and enjoys delivering both high-energy club DJ sets and intimate live sets where he can perform his original tracks with guitar and vocals.
Ken is a two-time winner of Insomniac’s Discovery Project series, having most recently performed at Escape: Halloween 2024. He has also enjoyed the opportunity to perform in supporting slots for his favorite inspirations including San Holo, Seven Lions, KREAM, yetep, and JAUZ.
