The band is ready to dominate 2024 with the release of their sophomore EP, Nothing, Perfectly. It has been two years in the making – from COVID jams to voice memo drafts – Yester Daze would typically write most of the concepts by themselves before showing them to each other to see what they might come up with.

Every music has an identity, a story, and a vibe. Nothing, Perfectly, has everything, from grunge heaviness to alternative rock to pop punk bangers. Every member is dynamic right away and shines. During COVID-19 rehearsals, certain songs, such as ‘Another Mistake’, ‘Hanging by a Thread’, and ‘Holy Moly (This Is Who I Am)’ were created. Brandon wrote ‘The Ones Who Bleed’ and ‘Going Nowhere’ in his bedroom; ‘Going Nowhere’ was an afterthought from 2019. In an hour, the latter was instrumentally fully developed. The previous two were put on hold until he messed with them again.

Soaring choruses and hard-hitting guitars will appeal to fans of Foo Fighters, Green Day, Billy Talent, and Sum 41. Their latest EP’s message is to never lose sight of who you are to gain approval from others. The six tracks showcase their distinct style, which builds and develops the musical framework established on their debut EP, Yours To Follow, which received widespread recognition in the media and on radio stations both nationally and internationally.

The opening song, ‘Another Mistake,’ gives an insight into relationships that are gradually falling apart. ‘Hanging by a Thread’, is the most emotionally and musically intense in the band’s repertoire. It ends with screaming guitar solos and sobbing vocals from frontman Brandon McShad and guitarist Zach Lemay. ‘Going Nowhere’, the EP’s closing tune, contrasts a depressing, stadium-sized chorus with an open and candid portrayal of mental health and suicidal struggles. The central theme of all six tracks is mental health, which is deftly and creatively interwoven throughout. With hits like these, Nothing, Perfectly, is unquestionably a solid follow-up to their debut and is sure to propel these Montreallers to new heights.

Nothing, Perfectly, is a showcase for Yester Daze’s unyielding perseverance and signature sound, as it bridges the gap between loud guitars and pop tunes. Matt Nozetz (Avbury Studios) produced it, while Dave Traina (The Damn Truth) mixed it. Their love of creating rock music and their lyrics shape who they are as a generation. A generation longing for a better future and bereaved of them is delighted by this.

On the release, Yester Daze comments, “Nothing, Perfectly, means a lot to me personally. A lot of the lyrics touch upon my mental health struggles with some blatantly referencing my suicide attempt and darkest days, as well as failed relationships and feelings of not being good enough. This EP sounds like what I grew up listening to and what I always wanted to make. We’re getting closer to our sound with every song and I love that.”

In the realm of growing stardom, Yester Daze has accumulated attention from various media outlets including V13 Media, Metal Devastation Radio, Radio Humber, Square One Magazine, The Brett Davern Show, Canadian Beats, The Gunz Show, Alternative Rock Press, Daily Rock Quebec, and Thorn of Rock, among others. They have garnered attention with achievements with heavy rotation on national and international radio stations, notably achieving the number one spot on PlayMPE’s Top 20 Streams and Downloads Rock Worldwide, earned the title of CHOM 97.7’s Big Shiny New Song of The Week, and secured a place in heavy rotation on idobi Radio.
