An infectious pop jam, ‘Nice Guy’ centres around endearing vocal melodies and charming instrumentation. Portraying Yxngxr1 as the ‘boy next door’ who isn’t quite how he first appears, the accompanying video directed by Elif Gonen (Lava La Rue, Deb Never, Finn Foxell) and produced by Archie Pearch (Barbie, Willy Wonky, Secrets of Dumbledore) communicates the theme of the track in visual form.
His second release of the new year, it follows recent single ‘Sweatshirt’, with both tracks set to feature on his forthcoming Teenage Motel project. It is set to become his sixth long-player release since his 2019 debut Childhood Dreams, which pulled in over 100 million Spotify streams.
A true product of the internet generation, Yxngxr1 is a multi-faceted artist from Cardiff who first generated a buzz with debut single ‘Tyler’ in 2019 – in between holding down a post-school day job at Foot Locker. Following his viral explosion across fan-favourite singles such as ‘Rather Do’, ‘RockStore’, ‘721’, ‘Pigeons’ and more, he also released a flurry of full-length projects, including Childhood Dreams, I Don’t Suit Hats, YELLOW YELLOW YELLOW, DigiKid and Digikid 2, drawing praise from The Line of Best Fit, tmrw magazine, Buzz Mag and The Guardian, who applauded his ‘lovably lo-fi indie-rap’.
Having always taken a self-sufficient DIY approach to his music releases, Yxngxr1′s previous projects were completely self-promoted, creating everything with his mates in true independent fashion. The results speak for themselves, as he has successfully built up significant multi-territory streaming numbers organically while also cultivating a diehard fanbase in the process. At the end of last year, he completed a headline tour that allowed him to experience his fans in real life, confirming Yxngxr1 as one of the most prolific artists on the scene right now.
Still making her way through college, Morgan Reese has already been featured as one of Buzzfeed’s ‘20 Black Indie Artists You Should Add to Your Playlist’, and spotlighted by Consequence, who praised her “confessional lyricism”. Morgan recently released her debut EP, Letters From The Invisible Girl! In which the entire project was written and produced solely by Reese herself.
‘Nice Guy’ demonstrates Yxngxr1’s natural talent for crafting a great pop track.
