There are many reasons why House music is in such good shape these days. The technology has improved, allowing producers to create better sounding music, increased connectivity has led to more collaborations and the growing cross-fertilization of genres has contributed to some of the most exciting music we at Traxsource have heard for years. Clearly, 2016 is already shaping up to be a vintage year for House music. We fed all our sales and user data into the super-computer that is the Traxsource office staff and have come up with a list of artists and producers who we think are going to have a very good start to 2016:

Riva Starr

Italian-born, UK based producer and DJ Riva Starr has been attempting to win the Hardest-working-man-in-show-business award for some years now. Besides an exhausting DJ schedule (including the likes of Cocoon, Creamfields, Tomorrowland, and all points in between), Riva also runs the excellent Snatch! Records, releases his productions as well as finding the time to remix the likes of Usher, Wiley, Fatboy Slim, Dennis Ferrer, Cajmere, Major Lazer and plenty more. He’s hitting the ground running in 2016 with his 3 tracker ‘The Superdope’ EP dropping via Defected on 25th January – this may just be the first big tune of the year.

‘Chrissy’ is the reincarnation of the Chicago producer formerly known as Chris E Pants (Hypercolour / File Under Disco) who has been running his label Nite Owl Diner with Alex Burkat. Chrissy has two releases coming out on a pair of labels which are a producer’s dream-team and which we believe are going to substantially increase his profile this month. January 29th sees the release of Chrissy’s sublime ‘Growl’ EP on Freerange while the week after on 8th February, his ‘Join Me EP’ drops on Classic Music Company. Both labels are highly respected, so this is a healthy start to 2016 for Chrissy.

Sonny Fodera

Sonny Fodera (Cajual Records, Defected, Suara, Dirtybird, Visionquest) is currently riding high, having just been named as Traxsource’s #1 Artist to watch for 2016. Wasting no time, Sonny’s back on the DJ treadmill that saw him guesting worldwide last year (Amnesia, DC 10, Ministry, Air – the list goes on…) and he is also releasing his Defected In the House Compilation and Sampler which we suspect is gonna be big.

Ponty Mython

DJ and Producer Ponty Mython (Dirt Crew / Quintessentials / Capital Bass / Arma / Tusk Wax) makes the January list because of his 5 track Deep House excursion, the ‘I Wish’ EP, which is coming out January 25th on Swedish Brandy Productions. Featuring analogue squelches, gritty, groovy beats and the kind of signature production flourishes that make a tune stand out from the crowd, ‘I Wish’ follows on from his recent success the ‘Adverbs’ EP on Capital Bass and we think will do very well this month.

Daniel Steinberg

Berlin producer Daniel Steinberg has been in the game for a few years now but is still turning out supa-fresh material. His forthcoming release on Waze & Odyssey’s W&O Street Tracks showcases the tougher side of his sound, serving up two searing Tech-House tracks. We are also very pleased to welcome Daniel as our guest on the Traxsource LIVE! mix coming February 5th.

German duo Florian Vietz and Andreas Höpfl (Let’s Play House, Madhouse, Gomma, Toy Tonics and more) are on a two-man mission to bring Disco and Soul back to House music. Judging from the DJ support for their releases coming from the likes of Boys Noize, Laurent Garnier, Jimpster and Tensnake, they appear to be on their way to accomplishing that mission. Coeo are upping the pressure in January 2016 with their vaunted Disco-juggernaut ‘Back in the Days’ EP coming on Toy Tronics.

Tim Deluxe

With a dance music history that any producer would be proud of (who can forget ‘RIP Groove’?), Tim Deluxe shows no sign of slowing down. Taking his current sound to New York, Tim has a new deep ‘n’ jazzy single coming on Strictly Rhythm, ‘Jas’, as well as a new full-length album on Strictly in February, both of which we think are going to be popping up in many a DJs playlist over the next couple months.

8. Frits Wentink

Frits Wentink

2016 is looking extremely bright for Mr Wentink. Having already made his name with releases on Wolf Recordings and Detroit Swindle’s Heist, not to mention his own Bobby Donny imprint, Frits is back at the end of January with another forward-thinking 4 tracker on Heist, featuring four tracks of his idiosyncratic blend of house and techno that we suspect will do very well for him.

Jazzman Wax and Iban Montoro

2015 was a solid year for Spanish underground players Jazzman and Iban Montoro (Strictly Rhythm, i! Records, Good For You, Jump, Gourmand, King Street Sounds, Piston Recordings), nicely finished off with their placings in Traxsource’s Top Tracks of 2015 and Top House Artists of 2015. Their ‘Chicago’ EP on Strictly Rhythm picked up plays from a whos-who of quality DJs, and they are set to follow it in fine style with their Disco-referencing ‘Our 2nd EP’ on Good For You Records which drops in early February and for which we are expecting great things.

Dario D’Attis

Dario D’Attis released his ‘Raw’ EP on Lapsus Music (with collaborator David Aurel) at the end of 2015 to great acclaim and tracks from the EP have been heard on the more discerning dance floors ever since. Dario’s big release news for the beginning of 2016 comes in the shape of his huge remix of the S-Man (Roger S) and Mr V’s ‘Under the Radr’ which is due on EXCL on 25th January. But let’s not forget before that he also has a 3 tracker coming out on Steve Bug’s Poker Flat (January 15th), setting him up for a very strong start to 2016.

So there you have it, ten artists who we think you’ll be hearing more of in 2016. Whether you like your House music Deep, Tech, Soulful, Afro or Jackin’, there’s going to be plenty of beats that are perfect for you. Happy New Year!
