Adam Freeland’s re-emergence from 10 years in the desert continues as Marine Parade relaunch with the release of the ‘Twister’ EP, arriving 9th October 2026. The two-tracker marks Freeland’s first solo material since 2007 and also comes with a music video for ‘Twister’, directed and choreographed by award-winning dancer and choreographer Ryan Heffington, and cut and edited by Copenhagen filmmaker Juan Palacio, which you can preview here (link to be added).
On the A-side, ‘Twister’ lures you into the desert, pulsing raw bass coiling around a tight polyrhythmic groove like sun beaming on arid earth, while cavernous dub hits echo in the distance. Twister draws from Freeland’s love of psych rock and drone as much as it does from his roots in leftfield techno and breakbeat. A hypnotic wonky triplet groove builds tension, releasing in drone mayhem at the halfway mark before starting all over again, with a cinematic guitar finish. On the flip,‘Kiligurl’ closes with a pulsing drone over a broken rhythm, plenty of spring reverb bringing an organic, classy dub vibe behind its mirage-like bass.
‘Twister’ follows Adam Freeland’s ‘Transhuman’ EP with Spooky’s Duncan Forbes, released in July as the first release from his revived Marine Parade, hailed by Mixmag as one of the best tunes of the year. The influential label helped pioneer the edgier end of the breakbeat sound in the noughties, before ceasing operations in 2009, with its return coming after Freeland spent more than a decade living off-grid in the Mojave Desert (where he built a studio cantilevered off a giant boulder) and working on his band The Acid (Mute/Infectious) with Ry X.
