Following their ‘Fluid Humanism’ EP in 2022, BLACK GIRL / WHITE GIRL return to Ben Sims’ Hardgroove , releasing the ‘Higher Power’ EP 9th October 2026.
HYBRID SPASM founders BLACK GIRL / WHITE GIRL, aka Ty & Karin, boast an impressive run of releases on the likes of Truncate, Super Rhythm Trax, and Hardgroove sibling label Symbolism. They have performed at venues including Perron, Radion, Motion and Good Room, earning a reputation for energetic, groove-driven sets that combine machine-funk Techno with vocal flashes and unexpected turns.
With title track ‘Higher Power’, BLACK GIRL / WHITE GIRL juxtapose thunderous drum work with vocal snippets drenched in soul. The versatile ‘1-800-DIVA’ sees the pair utilise more classic sampling as they work the filters, before ‘Legacy’ rolls on via a percussive workout and playful drops. The No Bleep Mix of ‘Devotion’ then closes, a true groove-first stomper to turn the crowd into a frenzy. Written after a period of hardship following Ty’s Leukaemia diagnosis, and the catharsis of her recovery, it’s an EP about strength, expertly balanced with plenty of feeling.
“Soul, funk, disco, and hip hop have always fed into our music. The trax on this EP came naturally because this is what we love making, music from the heart. Hardgroove feels like the perfect home for them. Nobody does what Ben does, and he’s believed in our music for years. We’ve always followed our own instincts rather than chasing charts or popularity, and Ben understands that like no other. We want to connect through love, light, and joy, with a lil foolishness thrown in for good measure. That’s just who we are.
