For over a decade, Amsterdam’s Dam Swindle have occupied a distinctive space within the modern house music landscape, balancing functionality with musical sensibility across labels such as Aus Music, Phonica Recordings, and, most prominently, their ever-impressive Heist Recordings imprint. While their output has remained consistent in both identity and quality, their career has always welcomed evolution, with their discography now shaped by a long list of standout records that bring a clear focus on groove, detail and longevity. That approach carries over into their latest EP, ‘Do What You Want’, a four-track collection that sees them join Prunk’s PIV Records for the very first time, highlighting new sides of their sound while connecting two powerhouse names in the city’s rich house scene.
The title track ‘Do What You Want’ pairs swinging drums and expressive vocal touches with an effortless sense of movement, while ‘Happiness’ leans into skippy grooves that zigzag through fluid percussion and lifted chord work. Concluding the trio of originals, ‘Special Request’ sees the pair move into a sound that fuses classic US house touches with UKG influences, built around low-end pressure and rhythmic shifts. Closing the release, INSTINCT and Constant Sound head honcho Burnski reinterprets ‘Do What You Want’ through his own club-focused lens. Tightening the groove, the UK mainstay reshapes the original into a chunky late-night flip, centred on a heavy low end while remaining true to the original’s vibrant character.
