“Here To Stay” sets the tone, blending addictive pop sensibilities with energetic drum and bass. Cape Town-born, Nashville-based ELIAZ provides a rousing vocal performance with gripping lyrics. The bold and beautiful topline pulls at your heartstrings while Dux N Bass moves between evocative melodies and punchy percussion. Pulsing synths and airy pads strike the perfect balance, making this a power ballad for D&B lovers.
Building upon the opener, “Don’t Give Up On Me” packs a similar punch but with a differing edge, as the introduction and vocals explore a more somber tone. While “Here To Stay” delivers a feeling of commanding certainty, its follow-up is precarious. Ni/Co’s emotional vocals represent a desire to push through the hard times. The production matches the energy moving from chilly keys and dark bass, to pulse-racing drops equipped with laser samples and bouncy synths. The dichotomy throughout takes listeners on a rollercoaster ride of emotions while flowing with precision.
The project’s finale, “With You,” allows the focus to remain solely on Dux N Bass. The song’s namesake serves as the only lyrics featured throughout, while the track utilizes haunting vocal bends to produce a sentimental sensation. The breaks and builds showcase the producer’s knack for crafting evocative soundscapes while adding to the impact of the drops. Chilling yet shuffle-inducing, this one fits in at home on dancefloors or while listening alone on a night of reflection. It’s a Beauty-meets-beast affair for a final showcase of Dux N Bass’ mastery of contrast.
Dux N Bass breaks down what makes this release so special, stating, “Releasing on Bassrush has been a long-term goal for me. Collaborating with ELIAZ and Ni/Co, who are both based in the US, was a truly enjoyable experience. We connected online during the COVID-19 pandemic, and I sent them demos while they crafted captivating vocal lines. With drum & bass gaining popularity in the US, I am incredibly excited to see what this release will bring.”
Currently operating out of Germany, Dutch producer Dux N Bass has enjoyed past tastemaker support from Andy C, Delta Heavy, Flowidus, Kanine, A.M.C, Axel Boy, Sippy, Koven, Sikdope, Georgie RIOT, and Youphoria. Dux N Bass first broke out in 2018 with ragga-fueled single “Walk n Skank” alongside Macky Gee, which has amassed 5.5M streams to date. He’s recently put out a string of singles on Friction’s Elevate Records, and has been tapped for remixes by Sofi Tukker and Duke & Jones.
‘Relation’ illustrates the power of collaboration and music’s ability to transcend borders. A drum & bass backbone, pop-friendly vocals, and rolling waves of emotion come together for an unforgettable journey.
Dux N Bass’ latest EP ‘Relation’ is available on all platforms via Bassrush Records.
