Eduardo De La Calle AKA Quantum Collapse returns to Apnea with ‘Frei Aber Einsam’, four tracks of tripped-out electronica

When the Apnea label returned from its hiatus in late 2022, it did so with Quantum Collapse’s ‘Orthogonal Eigenstates’ LP. The Madrid-based artist, also known as Eduardo De La Calle, now returns to the influential Spanish imprint with the ‘Frei Aber Einsam’ EP, following closely behind recent releases from Kyle Hall and Hieroglyphic Being.

Quantum Collapse, an artist with a career spanning over twenty years with genre-defying output on labels like Planet EHivern Discs, and International Deejay Gigolo, introduces the ‘Frei Aber Einsam’ EP with ‘Lobha’. Mind-melting percussion glitches and warps, carefully interwoven with growling low-end within gorgeous soundscapes, before ‘Maghada’ continues with futuristic sequences and crunchy synths, culminating in a racy breakbeat finish.

‘Kumaras 4’ kicks off the B-side with foreboding pads, IDM-like drums scratching and tearing through the atmosphere like signals from distant worlds, with slow-burner ‘Himsa’ closing out ‘Frei Aber Einsam’ with bit-crushed melodies and broken textures, alien machines singing in unison in this second, ground-breaking Apnea record from De La Calle.
