GiGi FM’s track “Ascenda” finds a meeting point between dub and driving techno. A firm kick anchors the track, while warm chords spread out above it, shifting the mood without breaking the groove. There’s a sense of lift to the arrangement, but it comes gradually, through subtle changes in the harmony and the space between the sounds, rather than a big drop.
The track has a softness that keeps its momentum from feeling blunt, and the dub influence gives the repetition room to breathe. Inspired by the Greek myth of Astraea, “Ascenda” is framed around the idea of rising above chaos, though the music works best when left to speak for itself. It’s a more open, emotionally direct take on club techno from an artist whose productions often favour the hypnotic and the strange.
