Carmine Portarulo AKA The Southern has risen through the ranks, becoming a regular on the international stage at clubs and festivals like ADE and Harry Klein amongst others. His stripped-back but cooling techno has found a home on labels like Tronic, Intec and Rawthing and he now makes his boldest statement yet on the legendary CLR.
This EP opens up with ‘Crackin Jack’, a belting track with hammering drum funk underneath dark vocal loops, as streamlined synths race along with increasing intensity. Things get even more raw and textured on ‘Killa Jack’, which brings frazzled synth stabs beneath tightly looped human voices. The superb ‘Switch Master’ drives ahead with edgy synths bringing a sense of suspense, which layered with deft details and pulsing effects ensures a maximum techno rush.
