Dutch maestro Steve Rachmad, known as Sterac, and Belgian techno boss Kr!z join forces on the ‘Lightworks’ EP. Their music strikes a perfect balance between potent floor-destroying beats and mind-expanding sonic journeys, releasing as the 19th instalment on Rotterdam-via-Berlin-based label Reclaim Your City. It’s a homage to their uncluttered and beautiful escapist vision, embodying both a classic feel and a forward-thinking sound palette.
Sterac takes the reins on the A side with ‘Muff Case’, in which surgical uptempo grooves and sci-fi-inspired analogue elements create a captivating experience, keeping listeners on the edge of their seats. ‘Strike Icer’ follows, an expertly crafted slice of liquid-like techno with chromatic arpeggios and subtle chord distortions. Rachmad’s precise and rich sonic blends showcase his refined brilliance and enduring relevance.
On the flip side, Token label head Kr!z unleashes ‘Sorcerer,’ an unrelenting spell of mind-boggling techno. Blunt synth arpeggios shift in and out of focus, accompanied by a wild, unforgiving storm of bass, destined to dominate the dancefloor. Title track ‘Lightworks’ takes a deeper angle, combining weird acid sequences with crisp drum patterns and bass-heavy aggression. Kr!z’s focus on textural sounds and rhythmic overlap creates huge sonic impact.
