Josh Butler’s sound has long been rooted in fusing the foundations of house music with modern touches that continue to make it his own, combining detailed musicianship with a strong sense of club functionality. That balance makes him a natural fit for PIV, and July sees him make his long-awaited label debut with his ‘On The Dancefloor’ EP – a quartet of productions that place equal importance on groove, feeling and longevity, showcasing the versatility within his sound as it moves between uplifting, vocal-led moments and deeper, more stripped-back club cuts.
The title track opens the EP with an immediate sense of summer energy, built around crisp drums, warm instrumentation and a lead sax line that carries the track forward. Soulful vocals run throughout, adding to its uplifting character while keeping the focus firmly on movement and rhythm. On the B-side, Josh shifts into deeper territory with the slinking ‘Hap Hazzard’ and the skippy, dubby ‘Final Round’ , with both tracks highlighting the more understated, club-led side of his productions.
A leading name for the past decade, Josh has developed a reputation as one of the UK’s most consistent voices in house music, with releases on iconic labels such as Cajual Records and Kaoz Theory cementing his approach. His work has always maintained a connection between classic and contemporary club culture, with a focus on musicality that runs throughout his productions. That same philosophy has shaped ORIGINS RCRDS, the label he has curated for nearly ten years. Built around a dialogue between generations of house music, the imprint has featured contributions from established figures including Kerri Chandler, Marshall Jefferson and Todd Terry, alongside current powerhouses such as ANOTR and Dennis Cruz.
