Jackson Englund and Diego Cuevas, both accomplished musicians in their own right, combine diverse talents and influences as Mont Blvck. After releasing their debut single “Letting Go” to acclaim from Mixmag, Pete Tong (BBC) and Jason Bentley (KCRW) to name a few, Mont Blvck takes another step forward with the new their first solo EP “Lost Tapes.”
Lost Tapes is a raw and honest look at what’s beautiful about the ups and downs of the creative process: it took a robbery (resulting in the loss of 5 years of music projects) to show the group just how much they had actually written. “Lost Tapes” is a collection of the records that made it through the incident – a new growth emerging from the loss.
Both musically and lyrically, “Forget” evokes the bittersweet haze that exists between dreams and reality. The driving mechanical rhythm provides a bold and charismatic contrast to the lilting falsetto that lays a pop sheen over the top. The other “Lost Tapes” speak to the diversity of Mont Blvck’s influences, from the alt-pop of “Before The Day Ends” and “Change Of Color,” to the funky grooves of “Trouble,” and the more classic approach of “Caught At The Station.”
