New Orleans-based duo sfam have released their new not playin’ EP out now via HypnoVizion. not playin’ marks sfam’s second EP on the label following last year’s neutral ground EP.

Driven by a sense of spontaneity and impulsivity, not playin’ is a reflection of the duo’s inherently rebellious nature. For sfam’s sophomore release on HypnoVizion, the duo explore uncharted territory and defy the conventionalities of bass music over six dynamic tracks. Jaw-dropping at every turn, sfam veer through a blitz of gritty basslines and wonky breakbeats. Taking new leaps and bounds through the realms of experimental bass and dubstep, not playin’ capitalizes on sfam’s abilities to morph through different BPMs to create new genre-blending sounds.
“For this EP, we wanted to make tunes at different tempos and we did exactly that. The tempos range from 87 to 100 to 110 to 140. We love putting our spin on different styles and we think we showcased that well with this release.” – sfam
In addition to their previously released collaboration ‘wassup’ with female beatboxer HerShe, the EP also features a unique collaboration pairing sfam alongside fellow HypnoVizion alum Super Future, who debuted on the label in 2023 with his Crimson EP.

Co-captained by childhood friends Jacob Hoerner and Michael Pearson since 2014, New Orleans-based producer/duo sfam have established themselves with their flair for the experimental. The pair have collaborated with Buku, TVBOO, and Mersiv, and in 2022, they self-released their first album below sea level. sfam made their debut on HypnoVizion last year with their neutral ground EP and have since supported Rezz at Stanford’s Frost Amphitheatre and Miami’s MANA.
