Nickelle pays homage to the DJs and producers of the Detroit underground on new releases ‘Neo One’ on Nov 20th via JSW.

‘Neo One’ was inspired by Detroit, a city whose music has shaped so much of what I love about  electronic music’ says Nickelle.

Following hot on the heels of her recent ‘Westpoint’ wibbly chugger for Nervous Records, her next  release, ‘Neo One’, arrives on Jack Said What.

The track is inspired by her love for the sound of the Detroit underground and those DJs and  producers who have come before her, both well-known and lesser-known.

“So many Detroit tracks have stuck with me over the years: from tech-futurism meeting  orchestral elements, as seen in the works of artists like Carl Craig and Kenny Larkin, right through  to the floor-focused grooves from the likes of Moodymann, Omar S and Theo Parrish. This project  brings all of that influence together.

‘Neo One’ is a cracking release. Kicking off like a deep tech builder with intricate percussion,  ascending minor chord keys soon set the emotional tone. At the start of the second drop, it’s  almost as if the string section of an orchestra has entered: what sounds like a violin tugs at the  heartstrings in an almost filmic way, providing a stirring trip.

Nickelle is a seasoned DJ and has a strong history in dance music. A former resident at the  legendary Honeyclub (Brighton), she soon began playing other iconic UK clubs including  Turnmills, The Zap, Ministry of Sound and The Escape. These choice gigs led to residencies at  Fabric and The End/AKA in London (for DTPM and Jaded respectively), followed by international  gigs in far-flung places such as Bali, Bucharest, Rome and Singapore.

In tandem with the explosion of her DJ career, Nickelle began producing her own music, releasing  on labels such as Slip N Slide, Art & Craft Recordings, Iberian, Bullet:Dodge and Rebirth, as well  as remixing the mighty X-Press 2. Now, after a short break, she’s writing the next chapter of her  career.

Progressive house don Nolan adds a more percussive clunk on his remix adding to the whole  package.
